Student Mentoring Schemes

The University runs several mentoring schemes for students in addition to those offered by individual Schools and Societies.

  • This scheme is open to all new undergraduates joining the university.

After confirming their place at St Andrews (this may be after exam results are received), new students will an receive an invitation to take part. We aim to pair new students with a current student who is studying the same subject as them.

  • This scheme is run in partnership with the BAME Student Network. It opens each semester and all self-identifying BAME students are welcome to join.

  • This community-building scheme for PG students was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to help students make the most of their time at St Andrews by linking them with their peers.

The St Leonard’s Community Scheme will be replaced by alternative initiatives for PG students in AY 2025/26.

Affiliated Mentoring Schemes

These schemes are co-ordinated by individual Schools and Societies for their members.

  • PALS is a mentoring scheme run by students, for students, to provide peer assisted support within the medical school. We know the jump from high school to medicine can be huge and we’re here to help you manage that transition by providing extra help regarding study skills and advice from those who have experienced it already.

We work alongside the School of Medicine Staff to organise our mock exams and revision booklets to help you prepare. We have become an integral part of support at St. Andrews — providing academic guidance, clinical skills teaching, and our Bsc/MBChBMentor-Mentee Scheme. We’re proud to support all medical students in strengthening their academic journey!
